This site is dedicated to the Koble/Coble families stemming from Lancaster
County.  Mainly those families descended from Elias Kobele/Koble from
Germany.  Elias Kobele immigrated from Germany to Lancaster County in 1818,
via Philadelphia.  He came under contract, with permission of his father, to work
and live with Benjamin Bear,  a farmer Conestoga Twp., Lancaster County for the
term of 3 years and 6 months, with at least 6 weeks schooling.A Matthias
Kobele, possibly a brother, immigrated to Philadelphia under the same terms
at the same time.

Research is currently be done to determine where in Germany he was from.
It is likely, however, that he originated from Strasburg located in the Rheinland
area. Several factors point to this conclusions.  First off, many Germans came
to America in servitude starting in the fall of 1817 due to the famine and
destruction caused by the 1816 "year without a summer" that struck the
Rheinland-Pfalz area.  Secondly, it has been shown that he married Theressa
Baker/Becker in France, most likely the Alsace area, very close to the Rhein
border and was actually part of Germany from 1870-1918.  Thirdly, most of the
immigrants from the Rhein settled in Lancaster.  And last of all John Coble,
his son, listed his father as being from Strasburg on the 1880 census.

It is believed that after his 3 1/2 year term he married Theressa Baker/Becker,
also of Germany, in the year of 1822. They returned to Lancaster County and
lived in the household of Benjamin Bear until 1831-1840.

Between the years of 1840 and 1850 they resided in Martic Township of
Lancaster County at the time of his death in 1865 Elias was living in
Providence Township. Elias and Theressa had the following children.

John Koble/Coble - May 11, 1824 - listed in will/separate residence 1850

Martin Koble/Coble - August 31, 1825 - listed in will/separate residence 1850

The spelling of the name had several variations of Kobele, Kobel, Koble, Coble
and Cobel.  Interestingly enough, Elias is listed as Elias Coble in his will with
his children have variations of Coble and Cobel.

Elias Koble died on October 24, 1865 in Providence Township.
His will probate occurred on November 1, 1865.  He was buried at Clearfield
Methodist Cemetary in Martic Township, Lancaster County.
